Bartlett Goes After Taylor For Misleading Ads

For Immediate Release, October 14th, 2013

Bartlett’s Campaign Sets the Record Straight on Taylor’s Misleading Ad

“Kathy Taylor is continuing her negative and untruthful campaign, and she should apologize immediately for misleading the voters,” said Dan Patten, Bartlett’s campaign manager.

“It’s time for the media to hold Kathy Taylor accountable. It is grossly inaccurate for Taylor to claim that Bartlett laid off police to make a political point, because that is absolutely not true. As Kathy Taylor well knows, layoffs were necessary because she spent the city into financial ruin, and in fact, the police layoffs started in the final days of her administration after she had cancelled several police academies,” said Patten. Patten added, “Dewey Bartlett was left with a city in financial ruin with very little in reserve, and facing a more than $10 million shortfall. Today, Tulsa is stronger and has $14 million in reserve and in a rainy day fund.”

It is also hypocritical of Taylor to claim that Mayor Bartlett mislead the council, when the truth is it was one of her staffers who gave Bartlett misinformation. The Taylor hire later apologized:

“McCalman, who had been the mayor’s director of governmental affairs, said his job was to ensure that the administration possessed all the information needed to arm itself in deliberations ‘and I clearly failed you in this regard.’

‘That was my error, not yours, and it is only right to accept my own responsibility,’ he wrote. ‘Any responsibility for errors based on my failure to effectively communicate should not fall with you…but with me.’ ….

McCalman said in a Jan. 22 e-mail…that the grant money ‘could only be reprogrammed to rehire’ officers and that ‘I am confident that if layoffs do occur,” the U.S. Department of Justice would approve the rehiring.’ (Tulsa World 4.26.10)

Kathy Taylor continues to hide from her track record and the damage she caused the city of Tulsa with her fiscally irresponsible decisions. She is trying to rewrite history and deceive Tulsa voters.
