San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro speaks to Tulsa County Democrats

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro is the kind of Democrat who excites his own party and exercises the other one.
Young, urbane, unabashedly progressive, the grandson of a Mexican immigrant, Castro is among those returning a heartbeat to the Texas Democratic Party.
As hard as it is to imagine a state that would elect Ted Cruz and John Cornyn to the U.S. Senate and Rick Perry to three terms as governor as anything but conservative, some analysts see it becoming increasingly competitive for Democrats.
On Monday night, Oklahoma Democrats were hoping some of that would rub off.
