Robertson: OK Democrats Down, But Not Out

Oklahoma Democrats down but not out, state director says
He says despite defeats, the party did do some things right in the last elections.

As bad as the 2014 elections were for Oklahoma Democrats — and they were bad — there was also some reason for encouragement, the party’s state director said Friday.

“There were some things we did correctly,” Executive Director Trav Robertson said. “There were some things we did better. The Oklahoma Democratic Party did not get in the shape it’s in overnight, and we’re not going to fix it overnight.”

Most of Robertson’s optimism stemmed from what he said was better organization and cooperation among campaigns and state and local parties. That included better use of technology to target voters and better utilize resources.

That allowed some candidates, including gubernatorial nominee Joe Dorman, to punch above their weight, he said.
