A State Board of Education member who vowed last month to “uniformly vote down every issue” put forth by State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister’s administration has withdrawn from consideration for a second term.

Amy Ford of Durant, whose first term expired April 2, had been nominated by Gov. Mary Fallin to serve a second term on the Oklahoma State Board of Education and the Oklahoma State Board of Career and Technology Education. But Fallin’s office announced Thursday that Ford had withdrawn ahead of the state Senate confirmation process.

“I have been greatly honored to serve as part of these important boards and am thankful for the trust you placed in me,” Ford wrote to Fallin in a letter provided in the governor’s press statement.

“I also want to acknowledge the work of the boards and the colleagues with whom I have been able to serve,” Ford stated in her letter. “The board members have demonstrated a sincere desire to improve education in Oklahoma. While there have been challenges during the past four years, each has been met with thoughtful consideration on what is best for every student in Oklahoma’s schools.”
