Cole, Lucas Predict Victory in Sequestration Battle

Oklahoma GOP gathers for dinner in Tulsa

Congressional Republicans are likely to take a beating over the next few weeks or months but should not give in to administration pressure to raise taxes, four of Oklahoma’s five U.S. representatives told a GOP gathering at the Renaissance Hotel on Saturday night.

“We will see the day when the White House will try to stampede all of us,” said 3rd District Congressman Frank Lucas, the senior member of Oklahoma’s House delegation. “When you have the secretary of agriculture saying under sequestration we won’t have meat inspectors in the plants … that’s just an effort to stampede us.

“(Sequestration) is $85 billion out of $3.4 trillion. We can’t let the White House stampede us.”

“It’s actually a very simple moment for the Republican Party,” said 4th District Congressman Tom Cole. “This is a time to stand fast and hold your ground. We’ll be judged on whether or not we hold our ground.
