Billionaires, Including Buffett, Gather In Tulsa

Philanthropists taking part in The Giving Pledge gather in Tulsa

Philanthropists and community leaders from across the country, including billionaire Warren Buffett, were in Tulsa on Thursday for a daylong “learning session” tied to The Giving Pledge.

The gathering included Tulsa billionaire George Kaiser, who in 2010 joined 70 of the nation’s wealthiest men and women in agreeing to donate at least half of their wealth to philanthropy as part of The Giving Pledge, a campaign started by Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates.

Those who make the pledge try to learn about various communities through get-togethers such as Thursday’s, said Ken Levit, executive director of the George Kaiser Family Foundation.
