Speaker McCall will face challengers for leadership role

The race for legislative leadership is on.
Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, will seek re-election among his fellow Republicans after two sessions as top lawmaker in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He is, however, facing challengers.
After two special legislative sessions marked by budget cuts and an inability to broker lasting deals with either Democrats or conservative members of his own party to raise revenue, there are four Republicans who filed to unseat him from his leadership role.
The candidates for speaker are McCall and state Reps. Tommy Hardin, R-Madill, Chad Caldwell, R-Enid, Charles Ortega, R-Altus, and Todd Russ, R-Cordell.
