Rep. Markwayne Mullin files odd campaign finance report

Freshman Rep. Markwayne Mullin filed a head-scratching campaign finance report on Wednesday that shows he accepted donations way over the legal limit and raised more than $2 million in a single quarter after raising less than $1 million in the previous 18 months.

The legal limits for individual donations are $2,600 per election, so a donor could give $2,600 for the primary election and another $2,600 for the general election.

On a report filed Wednesday covering July 1 through September 30, Mullin reported accepting a total of:

• $17,500 from a Tulsa donor and another $11,800 from her husband:
• $22,900 from a drilling company president in Oklahoma City. The campaign shifted some of that donation to the man’s spouse _ but even the transfer was about twice the legal donation.
