OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe and U.S. Rep. Tom Cole both have more than $1 million on hand as they gear up their campaigns for the 2014 election cycle, according to federal campaign reports filed on Monday.
The quarterly reports due before midnight show Inhofe raised nearly $680,000 during the three-month period from April 1 through June 30 and had more than $1.2 million in cash on hand at the end of the cycle.
“With more than 2,100 contributors, I am honored by the level of support from so many Oklahomans,” Inhofe, 79, said in a statement. “We are very excited about the success of our grassroots fundraising effort for this reporting period, and we are just getting started.”
Reports filed with the Federal Election Commission also show Inhofe has drawn a Democratic challenger: investment planner Matt Silverstein, 32, of Jenks, who’s a political newcomer.
