Republicans continue to gain in voter registration in Oklahoma
by Rick Green

Current statistics in Oklahoma show the Republican Party continuing to lead in voter rolls.

Records maintained by the state Election Board show 929,989 registered Republicans, 838,665 Democrats, 281,790 independents and 807 Libertarians.

Historical trends have seen the Republican and independent share of voter registration increasing while the percentage of Democrats has decreased.

The number of Republican voters went up by about 3 percent from 2014 to 2016, a net increase of about 26,000 voters. The number of Democrats fell by 6 percent, a net loss of 53,000 voters from 2014. Independents, meanwhile, had a net increase of 28,000 voters in that period.

Libertarians look to first appearance on Oklahoma ballot in 16 years by Chris Casteel WASHINGTON — The last time there

Libertarians look to first appearance on Oklahoma ballot in 16 years
by Chris Casteel

WASHINGTON — The last time there was a Libertarian Party primary election in Oklahoma was 2000, when three Libertarians ran for corporation commissioner.

In that race, none of the three reached the threshold to win the nomination without a runoff. But the second-place finisher dropped out to save Oklahoma the expense of what would have been the only statewide runoff election.

That year was also the last in which the Libertarian Party appeared on Oklahoma’s ballots. The party couldn’t demonstrate enough support to maintain its status under Oklahoma law.

After a change in state law, some outside financial help and an all-out effort to gather signatures, the Libertarian Party is back.

There are 17 candidates in 16 races this year. And there will be a Libertarian primary in the U.S. Senate race on June 28.

Libertarian Party is certified in Oklahoma by Rick Green State officials certified the Libertarian Party on Monday for this election

Libertarian Party is certified in Oklahoma
by Rick Green

State officials certified the Libertarian Party on Monday for this election cycle.

“This means Oklahomans can register as members of the Libertarian Party, and candidates can run as Libertarian for all partisan offices in the state,” Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said. “The Libertarian Party also will receive a ballot line for president and vice president in November’s general election.”

The party collected 30,517 valid signatures.

There is a short window for those who would like to register before the June primary and August runoff elections.
