OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Republican Party is offering to provide a home for a Ten Commandments monument that has been ordered removed from the state Capitol grounds.

In a statement Wednesday, interim party chairwoman Estela Hernandez offered to have the monument placed at the Dewey Bartlett Center, the home of the Oklahoma Republican Party.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court earlier this year ruled the monument violated a state constitutional provision that prohibits the use of state property to support a religion and must be removed. On Tuesday, a state panel that oversees artwork at the Capitol authorized the Office of Management and Enterprise Services to remove it.

by SCOTT PRUITT September 29, 2015 3:27 PM

As we choose our next president, Americans will doubtless turn their attention to the crucial issues of economic opportunity, national security, family, and faith.

Underlying all of these issues, however, is another that shouldn’t be overlooked: our frustration with how the federal government has invaded nearly every aspect of American life, while consistently failing to accomplish the few basic tasks the Constitution actually requires of it.

The Obama presidency has made this reality clearer than ever, with the federal government’s choosing to put regulators on the ground in our heartland to fight farmers and power plants instead of boots on the ground to fight ISIS, choosing to seize control of our health care instead of securing control of our borders, and choosing to bind economic growth and innovation at home while recklessly loosening economic sanctions with state sponsors of terrorism in Iran.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), Vice Chairman of the House Science Committee, today questioned Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), Vice Chairman of the House Science Committee, today questioned Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy about the science used to justify the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) final rule. WOTUS seeks to expand the EPA’s regulatory control over waterways in our country by expanding the definition of “navigable water” under the Clean Water Act to include potentially any flowing or standing water on public or private land.

“Coming from a rural area, I’m a little sensitive about the Waters of the United States rule,” said Lucas.

He stressed to McCarthy that the scientific data used to justify these burdensome regulations should be made available to the public for review.

Lucas also pointed out to McCarthy that comments from the Chairman of the EPA’s own Science Advisory Board and the President’s science advisor have reflected that the data used to justify regulations should be made publically available.

Lucas concluded his remarks saying, “there’s a fine line between doing things for people and doing things to people… there’s a perception across the country – whether it’s in ag or construction –you’re not doing things for people. You’re inevitably doing things to people.”

Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1732, the Regulatory Integrity Protection Act of 2015. The bill prevents the EPA from implementing the WOTUS rule. It requires the agency to reconsider the thousands of public comments from concerned Americans and rewrite the rule to reflect the public’s perspective.

In February, Lucas introduced the EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act of 2015, legislation to ensure the science guiding EPA’s regulatory policy is objective and available for public review. The bipartisan bill passed the House of Representatives in March.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) announced upcoming staff changes in his district office.

Effective July 31, District Director Joshua Grogis will depart the Oklahoma staff and join Fleske Holding Company, LLC in Norman as Director of Marketing and Leasing. A long-time member of the staff, Grogis first began serving in 2007 as Assistant to the Chairman while Cole was Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. Following the chairmanship, Grogis joined Cole’s legislative staff on Capitol Hill and then moved to Oklahoma in 2010, where he served as Field Representative and later as Campaign Manager. Since 2012, he has served with distinction as District Director.

“Josh Grogis has served with me for a long time, and I count him as not only a devoted staff member but a trusted friend,” said Congressman Cole. “Throughout all these years, I’ve had the great honor and privilege of watching him grow both personally and professionally. He’s fearless in the midst of any challenge, has incredible energy and leads my Oklahoma staff with great skill. I’m grateful for his tireless, exceptional work that has benefitted the people of the Fourth District. While his send-off is bittersweet, I could not be prouder of all that Josh has achieved and all that he will accomplish in the future.”

“Working for Congressman Tom Cole and the constituents he serves has been an incredible experience,” said Grogis. “I will forever be grateful to him, our staff and friends for their trust and support. Most importantly, because of Tom, I am thankful to now call Oklahoma my home, Jessica my wife and so many others my friends.”

Cole also announced the promotion of Jeff Peters to District Director. Since 2012, Peters has served as Field Representative for Cleveland and Oklahoma counties in the Fourth District; he also managed Cole’s most recent re-election campaign. Before joining the staff, Peters was active in other campaigns and party politics in the state, including Political Director of the Oklahoma Republican Party.

“I am very pleased to announce that Jeff Peters will assume the role of District Director this August,” said Congressman Cole. “A lifelong resident of Moore, Jeff knows the people, places and needs of the Fourth District well. Since joining my staff, he’s brought a thoughtful perspective and amazing work ethic that has inspired the entire team. As he takes on a new set of responsibilities in the days ahead, I am confident that he will continue to make a noticeable impact.”

“It has been an honor to work for Congressman Cole and serve in the area where I grew up and still call home,” said Peters. “I appreciate the opportunity I have been given and look forward to continuing in my new role.”

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 5, 2015) — One of the U.S. Senate’s most outspoken conservative leaders, Sen. Ted Cruz, will be the keynote speaker for the Energizing America Gala on Friday, May 22 in Oklahoma City. The gala is one of several events included in the Southern Republican Leadership Conference (SRLC) being held May 21-23 at the Cox Convention Center. The gala is Cruz’s only speaking engagement during SRLC.

Cruz, a 2016 presidential candidate, is one of 14 speakers confirmed for the SRLC and will only take the stage during the Energizing America Gala. Cruz was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010 and quickly garnered national attention in Congress for his leading efforts to defeat Obamacare.

“Sen. Cruz’s recent announcement for president has created quite a buzz among Republican voters, and I know primary voters will want to hear what he has to say,” said Randy Brogdon, Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party (OKGOP). “With the future of Obamacare increasingly in doubt, many have looked to Cruz as the point of the spear in Republican efforts to defeat the president’s signature policy.”

Tickets to the Energizing America Gala can be purchased online through May 19 at www.okgop.com/srlcgala or by phone at (405) 528-3501. Tickets to only the gala are $100 per individual or $175 per couple. Guests also have the opportunity to purchase tickets to a 7 p.m. reception, which includes a picture with Cruz before the plated dinner at 7:30 p.m. Ticket sales from the gala will benefit the Oklahoma Republican Party.

The SRLC is a quadrennial event expected to draw at least 2,000 Republican Party activists from 14 southern states to hear from key Republican leaders on policy and politics of the day, to take part in grassroots training and participate in the first major presidential straw poll that is being conducted by Sooner Polling.

In addition to the Energizing America Gala, the three-day conference will also include an Oklahoma Welcome Reception on Thursday, May 21 at the Myriad Gardens and a luncheon featuring legendary energy entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens on Friday, May 22 at the Cox Convention Center. Both of these events are in addition to the conference fee. More information is available at http://www.srlc.gop.

April 15, 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A.H. Strategies announced today the addition of Cameron Green to its staff. Green joined the firm this month, coming from former U.S. Senator Tom Coburn’s office where he worked before the senator’s departure from the Senate.

Green worked as a field representative serving the northeastern part of the state. Prior to that, he worked as Senator Coburn’s Office Manager in Washington D.C.

Green also has worked in Austin, Texas as a political consultant for various conservative think-tank organizations. Green brings experience in campaign operations as well as knowledge on legislative issues that are vital to the state of Oklahoma, said Fount Holland, the company’s founding partner. ““We view his addition as a sign of our commitment to being the leading company in our industry in the state.”

Cameron graduated from Jenks high School in Tulsa and attended Oklahoma State University, where he majored in Political Science. Holland said his knowledge of Tulsa and eastern Oklahoma will be important because of the significant work the firm does in that region of the state.

Here is our take on the events of Saturday. Perspective and coverage from those who were there… This past Saturday,

Here is our take on the events of Saturday. Perspective and coverage from those who were there…

This past Saturday, the Oklahoma Republican Party met in Oklahoma City for its State Convention. While many items were on the agenda, the race for State Chairman was the main event.

The OKGOP had the most competitive three-way race for State Chair in almost ten years, when Gary Jones defeated incumbent Tom Daxon and Tulsan Jerry Buchanan.

In the first round of balloting, former State Senator Randy Brogdon garnered 47.45%, OFRW President Pam Pollard 29.11%, and current OKGOP Chairman Dave Weston came third place with 23.43%. On the second ballot, Brogdon prevailed in a close race with 53.35% in the runoff.

Many were shocked by the results, including the AP, who seemed flabbergasted that Chairman Weston could be defeated after the election successes of 2014. We aren’t so surprised.

What Southern State Chairs, in particular, have begun to learn is that their activist base now expects Republican wins. If you have an “R” in front of your name in the South, you got a good chance of winning. Activists now want more than just electing Republicans out of their State Parties. Fair or unfair, that is the reality.

A lot of people will point to the registration and credentialing delays on Saturday and say that hurt Weston. We don’t buy it. Activists showed up with their minds made up. Weston deserved reelection based on the Nov, 2014 election results. Unfortunately for him, activists want more than wins at the ballot box.

Which brings us to Randy Brogdon. There is no question about it: this is Brodgon’s last stand. After all the botched campaigns and gaffes, he somehow someway finds himself the Chairman of the most powerful and influential political party in Oklahoma. Very few people get a second chance to define their legacy. He knows it, and because of that fact, we believe he will play nicely in the sandbox. There will be bumps in the road — there always are in party politics — but this is his last chance and we don’t think he’ll blow it.

Chairman Weston’s campaign released the below statement this morning. As a reminder, the State Convention will take place this Saturday in OKC. Pam Pollard and Randy Brogdon are challenging Weston for Chairman.

Fellow Oklahoma Republican,

It is exciting to think about the progress our party has made in Oklahoma the past 10 years. Supermajorities in the House and Senate, Republicans in every statewide elected office and Republican voter registration outnumbering Democrats for the first time in state history!

These great accomplishments don’t happen by accident. They are the result of hard work by Republicans across our state and solid leadership within our state party.

As Speaker of the House, I was privileged to work with Chairman Dave Weston throughout the 2014 election cycle. With his help, we were able to defend our supermajority, retaining 72 seats in the House!

Chairman Weston ensured the state party had the services in place to help our incumbents and candidates be successful in the recent election cycle and built a foundation for our party’s success in the future.

I am proud to call Dave Weston my friend, and I am proud to endorse him for reelection as chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party.

Chairman Weston’s conservative leadership will help grow our party as we work together to move Oklahoma forward.

Sincerely,

Jeff Hickman
Speaker of the House
State of Oklahoma

The OKGOP State Chairman race is starting to pick up steam as the April 11th election is now 30 days

The OKGOP State Chairman race is starting to pick up steam as the April 11th election is now 30 days out. Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett sent the below letter this week endorsing Chairman Weston’s reelection effort. Pam Pollard and Randy Brogdon are challenging Weston for the seat. The Okie will continue to cover this ongoing story…

Fellow Oklahoma Republicans,

There are three candidates running for Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party and they each deserve our respect and appreciation for the many things they have done to advance the GOP. It is from experience, however, that I know one candidate has proven his ability to lead our party as Chairman.

I am very excited to endorse Chairman Dave Weston for reelection.

Dave is the right person for the job and his valuable experience comes at a most needed time for our State and our Nation.

With Dave at the helm, Oklahoma had the highest number of winning races, 70%, in state history. Also one of the largest percentages nationwide.

Oklahoma is an example of conservative leadership.

Chairman Weston has proven that the Party is a factor all the way down the ballot. County and municipal elections were a priority for Dave and he provided training, resources, and services to our candidates. Many of our counties are experiencing Republican leadership at their county courthouse for the first time.

Dave is a friend of mine but more importantly he is a friend to every Oklahoma Republican. Dave has earned my trust and has the leadership our Party needs. Please join me in voting for Dave Weston for Chairman of the Republican Party on April 11 at the State Convention.

Dewey Bartlett,
Mayor of Tulsa

DC-based PAC Agrees to Stop Ads Targeting Cong. Jim Bridenstine The Oklahoma Republican Party today announced that television ads have

DC-based PAC Agrees to Stop Ads Targeting Cong. Jim Bridenstine

The Oklahoma Republican Party today announced that television ads have been stopped which were being aired by the American Action Network, a DC-based political action group, who was targeting a number of congressmen who oppose funding the president’s executive amnesty orders via the Department of Homeland Security budget.

AAN was formed in part by former RNC Chief of Staff Mike Shields, and in Oklahoma the ads were designed specifically to pressure Congressman Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) to drop his opposition to the aforementioned DHS budget deal.

OKGOP Chairman Dave Weston detailed, “I personally called Mike and expressed that I thought the ads were a bad idea and asked him that they stop since this type of messaging is not helpful, because no Republican group should be running ads that oppose our fellow brethren. And that goes for all groups conservative, moderate or Republican!”

“I further explained that Oklahoma might be a cheap media market, but Oklahomans are fiercely resistant to outside influences. And I gave him the example that almost all of the feedback we were receiving was positive towards Cong. Bridenstine and negative toward the ads.”

Weston continued, “We must be careful, I warned, that these constant attacks against our members play into the hands of Liberal-Regressives who practice Alinsky tactics that will defeat our (Republican) objective of re-establishing America as the Shining City on a Hill that the whole world can aspire to follow.”

“I’m encouraged that Mike was willing to listen to reason and that he agrees that a more positive approach toward our fellow associates will be the best way to move America forward. After all, our adversaries Obama, Biden, Clinton, Reid and Pelosi, et al, have left us a target rich environment that is ripe for reform. Energy independence, securing our borders, supporting our ally Israel, defeating the Islamic State and reforming our health care system via free market innovations are just some of the issues we could focus on.”

“We discussed the fact that an opportunity had been missed to give accolades to Speaker Boehner for having the courage to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress because of the distraction created by the ads.”

Weston concluded, “I’d like to publicly express my appreciation to Mike Shields and AAN for their willingness to listen and respond to our concerns in a positive manner by stopping these ads. This sets a great precedent for all of us to follow. Promoting the positives of the Republican Party and improving our negatives are going to be the best way to lead America. Today we took a step in the right direction by taking lemons and turning them into lemonade.”

AG attends Supreme Court arguments in King v. Burwell

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Scott Pruitt said the arguments heard Wednesday at the U.S. Supreme Court over the unlawful implementation of the Affordable Care Act present the court with a chance to rein in executive overreach.

General Pruitt attended the Supreme Court arguments in King v. Burwell. Oklahoma has played a major role in this case, being the first state to challenge the illegality of what the administration did by authorizing tax credits through federally run health insurance exchanges.

“This legal challenge presents a simple question for the Supreme Court to decide: did the IRS go further than what the ACA allows. The law clearly states that tax subsidies can’t be handed out and large-employer penalties can’t be assessed in states like Oklahoma that didn’t create their own exchanges. The IRS ignored those clear instructions in the ACA and rewrote the law to suit the political needs of the administration,” General Pruitt said.

“It’s one thing when the president says that gridlock in Congress ‘forces’ him to use his pen and his phone to circumvent Congress, but it’s quite another when Congress passes precisely the law the president wanted, yet he still can’t resist the urge to rewrite the law whenever he feels it necessary, and that is precisely what he did here.”

“I am encouraged to see the federal courts increasingly stepping in to rein in this sort of executive overreach. A federal judge recently halted the president’s executive actions on immigration in 26 states – including Oklahoma – that have challenged his unconstitutional executive actions. I am hopeful the Supreme Court will agree the IRS rule is unlawful and will put a stop to this extraordinary example of executive overreach. The IRS rule and the president’s immigration executive actions undermine the rule of law. Words, especially those in federal laws like the Affordable Care Act, have meaning, and I am encouraged the Court will heed the words of the ACA and side with those of us who brought this legal challenge.”
