Under Doerflinger, OK Becomes Nat’l Leader on Governement Transparency

Oklahoma improves grade on financial transparency

A national consumer group named Oklahoma a national leader in financial transparency on Tuesday – a marked improvement on Oklahoma’s “C+” grade last year that led state officials to promise change.

Finance Secretary Preston Doerflinger, who leads the state’s Office of Management and Enterprise Services, said recently the low grade made it a priority of his office to raise the grade by at least one letter this year.

“Open, honest government is priority No. 1 in this office,” Doerflinger said in a statement. “As the state’s primary bookkeeper, we are 100 percent committed to making it as easy as possible for the public to access its information.”

In another survey of government transparency and anti-corruption laws last year, Oklahoma ranked 38th, with a grade of D and a numerical score of 64 percent. The State Integrity Investigation, a collaborative project, involved reporters in each state – including from the Tulsa World – the Center for Public Integrity, Global Integrity and Public Radio International.
