Coburn not quite finished, tax code plan to come

Sen. Tom Coburn’s time in Washington may be nearing an end, but he still has a few firecrackers up his sleeve. One he intends to light soon, Coburn said while in Tulsa last week, is a proposed rewrite of the tax code.
“We look at every deduction, every business tax break, all the games that are played, we ferret out what’s true and what’s not,” Coburn said. “The majority of them don’t accomplish what we want them to accomplish in the tax code.
“We’re going to make the case that you ought to sunset the tax code and start over with a straight revenue system. No deductions, no nothing, let’s just all pay our taxes and go on down the road.”
