Lawsuit filed to challenge Pruitt’s rewrite of pot ballot title
by Rick Green
Attorney General Scott Pruitt injected his own bias against a medical marijuana initiative when he rewrote its ballot title, contends a lawsuit filed Tuesday with the Oklahoma Supreme Court.
The suit requests that the court allow the original ballot title to stand.
Supporters gathered enough signatures to place State Question 788 before voters, but they were too late for the Nov. 8 ballot. It could be voted on in 2018.
It is not the first time Pruitt has been criticized over a ballot title revision. Last month, the Oklahoma Supreme Court found that Pruitt’s ballot titles for two criminal justice reform measures were “misleading and partial.” The court rewrote the ballot titles after supporters of the measures lodged a challenge against the Pruitt versions.
