Tulsa Regional Chamber Chief Executive Officer Mike Neal’s involvement in a local fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana was not a surprise to chamber leadership, but the use of chamber letterhead for an emailed letter urging attendance at the event was, chamber Chairman Wade Edmundson said Monday.

Edmundson also said the chamber is a “bipartisan” organization that works with lawmakers of both parties.

“Mike Neal, as an individual citizen, certainly had my support, and that of our chair-elect Alan Armstrong of Williams, in assisting in co-hosting a political fundraiser for a candidate whom he considers a longtime, personal family friend from Louisiana,” Edmundson said in a written statement.

Besides being Neal’s friend, Landrieu is chairwoman of the Senate Energy Committee. Chamber representatives have previously met with her in Washington and worked with her office on energy-related legislation.
