Congressional Delegation Keeps Busy Over The Summer

What they did on summer vacation: Congress resumes work on Monday after its long August recess. But it isn’t as if members spent the past five weeks watching TV and eating chocolates.

Members of the Oklahoma delegation traveled on official business to Europe, the South Pacific, China and Central America, and all of them devoted time to meeting with constituents and working on legislation.

U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, who is leaving Congress in January, spent two weeks holding constituent meetings across the state. According to spokeswoman Elaine Joseph, he also used much of the break to work on a tax-reform proposal that figures to be one of his last pieces of legislation.

Coburn was also the keynote speaker at a Utah Chamber of Commerce event hosted by Senate colleague Mike Lee.

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe checked on the Texas-Mexico border and visited sites holding unaccompanied alien children and visited at least 15 Oklahoma towns and cities. He also hosted his annual dove hunt.
